General description
The University of Trento is a young (1962) University in North-East of Italy. It counts about 580 professors and 16000 students. Despite its youth it is the best scoring University of Italy of the last three years
The Department of Mechanical and Structural Engineering (DIMS) gathers together researchers of a broad range of areas ranging between Civil, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering organized on eight laboratories.
The Laboratory of turbomachinery is involved for fifteen years in studying and developing new technologies in the renewable energy field, and expressly wind energy. Recently the research activity has been focused on studying the application of innovative materials and technologies for offshore VAWT and small wind turbines (SWT). Since 2006 the lab operates an experimental test field for WT up to 20 kW, for structural and performance monitoring,(see www.eolicotrento.ing.unitn.it ).
